| Guidelines for Quark - Note - we do not work
inQuark, your final version should be a file that we can open in Adobe
Illustrator or Indesign, export as an .eps file.
When You Set Up Your Document
Give your file a name that is easy to associate
with your job.
Since Quark will not take a document size larger than 48" you will
have to set your document up at a percentage of the final banner size.
Take into consideration how the banner will be finished, generally, do
not place any key design elements within 1.5" from any sewn edge.
For more information on banner finishing styles see satin
banner finishing, or poly duck and vinyl banner finishing. (If
your design bleeds, add at least 1/4"of background color on all four
sides, outside the image area)
We prefer to have files
in RGB color.

Specify PMS numbers
Where possible, specify PMS numbers to be used in the objects in your
layout
|
|
Outline The Fonts
Since it is not possible to outline fonts in Quark it isimperative that
you carefully proof read your copy. It is difficult to edit type once it
has been saved as an eps or PDF file.
|
|
Placing Bitmap Files
Use this step if your file contains any bitmap images.
Tiff (.tiff), EPS (.eps) Large file, JPEG. (.jpg) Not recommended
Place images as you normally would, remember you are
working at half size so you will need images that are about 600 dpi to
yield a 150 dpi out put at the full size.
See the information on color
space in the Photoshop page for more on how to set up your bitmap
images.

Saving The File
When your layout is finalizedconver it into an eps or export as a PDF.
Select “Save Page As EPS” from the file
menu.
Be sure to proof-read your layout carefully. While it
is possible to edit a Quark generated eps in Adobe Illustrator or in Freehand
(with the assistance of the “PS EditLink” xtra) text breaks
between kerning pairs—making it extremely difficult to edit a line
of text.
Print your layout to make sure it does not cause a PostScript
error. You can do this by importing it back into a Quark document and
printing that document.
If you have Illustrator or Freehand open your eps file
and convert the text to outlines. That will absolutely insure that your
layout will not suffer any text reflow problem. It also elimates any cross-platform
font issues.
Name the file with your company name and date, (XYZcompany-mm-dd-yy.ai),
or your order number.
If time allows, send a color proof on the layout. |
