  • Incur extra costs that are passed on to customers from importation
  • Emit more harmful carbon into the atmosphere (because the fueling of large cargo ships doesn’t burn quality marine diesel, but dirtier, and less expensive, bunker fuel that leaves pollutants in their wake)
