How to Choose the Right Trade Show Table Cover
Yon never get a second chance to make a first impression. That is not a generic statement, just a widely accepted fact. This concept is more than just the baseline for brand marketing; it’s a reflection of what actually matters.
Anyone who has worked or been an attendee at a trade show will know that every company exhibiting at that event will be desperate to stand out from the crowd, Allocated booths don’t only jostle for attention, they are the pop-up shopfront for whatever your company is selling.
Event management and KPIs focus on booth activity. That is just one part of the jigsaw. Signing up to have a booth is just the first step, what really matters is how you not only display your company but attract buyers. In fact, it can be as simple as having a trade show table cover that pops on every level.
This might sound like common sense, but our 50+ years of printing custom tradeshow tablecloths has given us a unique insight into what works and, critically, what doesn’t.
Picture your booth ten minutes before the doors open. Every table down the aisle has a company logo stretched tight and even, bold color, sharp corners. Yours has a folding table draped with a wrinkled black cloth from the office supply closet.
It is not hyperbole to say that this is the moment an agreed trade show table cover either earns its keep or costs you a sale.
Attendees size up a booth in about the time it takes to walk past it. More often than not, they won’t even engage if the visual appeal is sub-optimal.
Let’s be clear: a cover that fits your table exactly, in your brand's colors, says "we planned for this." A bare table, or a cover that's the wrong length, not only says the opposite but is also a subtle indicator of quality.
There is no “Tradeshow Table Covers for Dummies” … trust us, we checked. That is why this guide exists to walk you through what you need to know, what it costs and the different versions available.
Search for "tradeshow table cover" or "trade show table cover," and you'll pull the same confusing mix of options either way. This guide sorts them out once, in plain language.
On a very basic level, there are four styles - throw, fitted, stretch, runner. You also have three heights (standard, demo and counter), and a table that needs to be measured right.
Order the wrong length, and you'll spend the morning of the show tucking fabric under the table, or worse, standing next to three inches of bare tabletop peeking out from underneath. And while you are doing this, attendees are walking past and looking for the table or booth that ticks their visual boxes.
FLS has printed, cut, and sewn trade show table covers in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin since 1974. Everything that we highlight in this guide - the sizes, the fabrics, the prices - comes from what's actually in our production line … not a generic checklist copied from somewhere else.
Why a Trade Show Table Cover is a Dealbreaker
Not every booth will have a table but it’s a common sight on the tradeshow floor. Take a moment to think about the two most used tables at any show: the plain rental folding table, and the branded one that sits a couple of booths down.
The plain table has visible legs, a seam where the tablecloth doesn't quite reach the floor, and nothing telling a walking attendee who you are or what you do. The branded table is a solid wall of color with your logo printed edge to edge, no gap, no wrinkle.
A custom trade show tablecloth is built to win. It's not decoration, it's branding. It’s the first thing a stranger's eye lands on from fifteen feet away, before your booth staff says a word and before that person reads your signage.
Let’s be clear; a printed table cover turns a rented table from the event into part of your brand, for both the length of one show, and every show after it.
The Four Trade Show Table Cover Styles (and Which One Fits You)
Every custom trade show tablecloth FLS makes can be printed to fit into one of four styles:
The difference is easy to explain; it’s how the fabric fits the table, not in what gets printed on them. For the record, your logo prints full color on all four styles.
The table (no pun intended) below is a good starting point of what each style is, the fit, the use cases and, importantly, the expected cost per style. Please note that the latter is a starting point only, our team of print professionals will quote a price based on project scope and your requirements.
Style | How It Fits | Best For | Starting Price |
Throw / Drape | Drapes over the top and hangs straight down on all four sides, unfitted | Tightest budget, or a cover you'll reuse across a few different table lengths | $128.50 |
Fitted | Tailored to the table's exact top and legs, sewn corners, no loose fabric | A clean, tucked-in look with a hard edge at the floor | $150.50 |
Stretch / Contour | Stretch fabric pulled taut and secured under the table frame - no sewn corners, no loose drape | A tight, wrapped look with zero excess fabric anywhere on the frame | $256.00 (4 ft) |
Table Runner | A vertical printed panel that drapes down the front face only, over a base cover | Layering a second logo or message on top of a plain or fitted cover | $45.00 |
Throw / drape
This is the trade show table cover most people picture first.
Think about the tablecloth on the average dining room table, with one important difference: It is sized to cover the top, front, both ends, and the back (if you choose) of your tradeshow table.
The corners have a specific radius so they don’t drag on the floor. It, is printed edge to edge with your artwork. And because the cover is unfitted, a single drape cover of the right length works well, irrespective of whether the table underneath is banquet-style or has slightly different leg spacing.
Fitted
These covers are cut and sewn to the table's dimensions, with each corner tailored so the fabric meets the floor in a straight line instead of pooling. For companies that are focused on taking booth photos and documenting the event for real-time or future use - trade show sales sheets, sponsor recap decks, social posts - a fitted cover is the style that photographs cleanest.
Stretch
Also known as a contour, this tradeshow cover is pulled taut and secured underneath the table rather than draped.
A contour cover has zero excess fabric anywhere on the frame. In other words, there is - nothing to bunch, and nothing to straighten before the event doors open. Industry research tells us that teams that build and break down a booth every week or two lean toward stretch for that very reason.
These covers are specifically designed to offer a sleek and modern display at trade shows, special events, retail point-of-sale, and outdoor venues. They are sure to enhance your brand's presence in a crowd.
Our stretchable table covers are made from a special knit polyester fabric that stretches to fit over tables perfectly, without the need for any hardware. This contour fit ensures no image distortion, helping maintain the integrity of your graphics from every angle.
Need To Know
FLS's stretch cover differs from most on the market, Our team designed a 100% polyester knitted fabric with the right amount of give. In fact, we deliberately left out spandex or Lycra.
In our experience, a special knit polyester fabric buys you two things.
First, potential fire retardancy is simpler. Spandex blends can't achieve a durable FR rating without specific additives. A knitted polyester gets there cleanly.
Second - and this is the one the average attendee will notice from across the hall - the contour shape is engineered into each panel of the cover based on the fabric’s characteristics rather than relying on elastic tension to find it.
That's what prevents the center of the panel from being pulled upward across the front, and which pulls a logo out of shape on a typical spandex cover. The end result: your artwork and branding sits where you wanted it to be.
The result is a cover that doesn't stretch out over a season of shows, and a design that looks the same at the twentieth event as it did at the first.
Table runners
Despite being part of the trade show cover family, this style isn’t a full cover at all.
A table runner is a single printed panel, 24 to 60 inches wide, that hangs vertically down the front face of the table - not flat across the top. When incorporated into a tradeshow booth, a runner layers over a plain rental cloth or an existing fitted cover to add a second brand element without replacing the whole cover.
Size Matters: What Do You Need?
The single most common mistake that people make is ordering by memory instead of by measurement.
It’s well-known that trade show tables aren't all the same height. Without wishing to state the obvious, the words "6 ft table cloth" means something different depending on whether you're covering a standard rental table or a raised cocktail table.
A good rule of thumb before you think about the design and branding is to start with the length of your designated table, then confirm the height.
FLS Banners offers a number of tradeshow table covers in varying lengths and styles, all of which should be sufficient to fill whatever role assigned to them.
Table Length | Throw / Drape | Fitted | Stretch / Contour | Starting Price |
4 ft | Available | Available | Available | $128.50 (throw) / $150.50 (fitted) / $256.00 (stretch) |
5 ft | Available | Available | Not available | $128.50 (throw) / $150.50 (fitted) |
6 ft | Available | Available | Available | $128.50 (throw) / $150.50 (fitted) |
8 ft | Available | Available | Available | $128.50 (throw) / $150.50 (fitted) |
6-8 ft adjustable | One cover converts between both lengths via a hidden Velcro panel | - | - | $208.00 |
One key thing to remember is that the majority of rented or allocated event tables are standard height.
The caveat is that there are two specific situations where size really does matter. This requires the buyer to not only design the cover accordingly but also understand the impact that a bad fit can have on the overall attendee experience.
If your booth includes a raised cocktail table for networking, don't order a standard-height cover for it. A counter height table cover is cut specifically for a 42-inch-tall table; a standard-height cover will ride up and expose the legs.
These two situations can be resolved or avoided with a proactive mindset, especially in terms of table logistics and booth setup:
Height Style | What It's For | FLS Product |
36-inch demo height | Product-demo tables and some exhibit counters sit taller than a standard banquet table | |
42-inch counter / bar height | Cocktail-round and bar-height tables at receptions, wine pours, and lounge-style booth areas |
Need to Know
There is a standard rule that saves you a returned order; measure your actual table, don't assume.
Tables labeled "6-foot" at a venue rental desk aren't always the same height as the one you measured in your own warehouse. That can become an issue when you arrive at the tradeshow and start setting your booth up.
When in doubt, measure length, width, and height in person before you place the order, and use FLS's
4-foot, 6-foot,
and
8-foot size pages to confirm the closest match.
Table Cover Fabrics: Knit Polyester vs. Fire Retardant
A tradeshow is a series of anticipated events and encounters that enhance a company’s brand. That does not mean that someone looking to buy a custom trade show tablecloth should ignore the potential for unexpected damage. If a table cover accidentally catches fire, then that could put a literal dampener on the whole event.
Choosing a fabric option that can adhere to local fire code regulations – which an increasing number of venues are requesting confirmation of before a draped table is even set up means that buyers have to be aware of what is and what isn’t fire retardant.
All of FLS’ tradeshow table covers (fitted covers, table runners, custom size and shape covers. come in two fabric options; knit polyester and Fire Retardant.
Knit polyester is the standard choice for most buyers. This fabric is a smooth weave that utilizes dye-sublimation printing – a specialized process where the ink is infused into the fibers rather than sitting on top of them. These covers are not fire retardant, but they can be printed to tick that box
The only exception to this rule are stretch covers, but it should be noted that every FLS stretch cover is fire retardant as standard. If a venue enforces its fire code requirements, then the only difference is that the table cover fabric is the same knit polyester described above but with the addition of fire retardant capabilities.
There's no upgrade to choose and nothing to check. If a convention hall or municipal event space requires exhibitors to have a fire retardant printed table cover, then the option is not just available, but necessary. This will incur an additional charge from the standard knit polyester fabric, albeit that it depends on the style and size of the original tradeshow table cover order.
For example (if want a quick spec comparison), the standard and Fire Retardant table cover fabric is 100% polyester at 6.8 oz, and the stretch fabric is a heavier
7.9 oz. In addition, if your venue's fire marshal needs a specific certification document on file pre-setup, you can call us ahead of the event, and FLS can confirm
what was on your order and the chosen fabric.

“The table cover we got from FLS for a 8' table is great! The logo printing looks amazing and the Fire Retardant option is a stellar material. Very happy, 5/5.”
Design Tips: What Actually Gets Noticed
Think about a printed table cover at events or trade shows that you have attended.
What stood out? Was it obvious from a distance? Did its design make you want to stop and talk to the person standing at the table? Or could the table cover be slotted into the could-do-better file?
The best and most successful trade show table covers don’t just amplify brand identity; they encourage attendees to engage with that company. Never forget that every table cover or drape is either seen from a distance and or read while in motion. Attendees will walk past, they don't stop and study it. Which puts the onus on the design team to create something that will stop people from just glancing quickly and moving on.
This requires some underlying design principles:
- Put your logo where eyes actually land. The top third of the front-facing panel, roughly where a standing adult's eyeline hits a table, gets seen. Text lower than table height, hidden behind product displays, doesn't.
- Use two colors, not six. High contrast (dark background, light logo, or the reverse) reads from fifteen feet away. A busy gradient with five colors reads as noise.
- Print the phone number or URL larger than you think you need to. What looks readable on your monitor at arm's length is often too small once it's stretched across six feet of fabric and viewed from across an aisle.
- Bleed your artwork to the edge. A white border around the design reads as a proof, not a finished product. Full-bleed printing is what makes a cover look made for the table, not taped on at home.
- Check your file before it ships, not after. Every order includes a free art proof - you'll see the exact design before we print it, catching a too-small logo or an off-brand color on your screen instead of the morning of the show.
- Image: Flat-lay of two fabric swatches under studio light, knit polyester on the left and Fire Retardant weave on the right, a small grease-pencil card between them noting venue fire-code use.
Booth Aesthetics: Matching Your Table Cover
A great table cover next to a bare pop-up frame or a mismatched banner stand still reads as unfinished. Simply put, the table is just one piece of the booth, and not the whole kit and caboodle.
The good news is that FLS Banners has the decades of experience required to bring the entire booth to life. In fact, we build the rest of the setup in-house, on the same production line as your table cover.
For example, you can add a fabric backdrop - the fabric pop-up backdrop prints on the same dye-sublimation presses as your cover, so the brand blue on the backdrop matches the brand blue on the table. Adding trade show banners for the aisle-facing side of your space, or feather flags for outdoor and high-ceiling venues where you need height above the crowd can make the booth feel bigger than it is.
Building a booth from zero? A packaged trade show kit bundles a backdrop, banner, and table cover at one price. And f your team travels to more than one show a year, think about buying a carry case (a waterproof Imperial nylon case built to protect the cover between venues) instead of stuffing it loose in a company-branded duffel bag.

“I have ordered too many to count for various companies. All are excellent and my clients are so happy. I have ordered fitted and non-fitted table cloths of all sizes. I have also ordered runners. The team at FLS is so helpful and nice.”
Trade Show Table Cover Buying Checklist
Preparation for a trade show is often in flux up until the day of the event, but what you don’t want is any unexpected surprises when your custom trade show tablecloth arrives. Making sure that everything looks right before the box arrives isn’t just common sense, it’s peace of mind.
This helpful checklist should give you everything you should have factored in, before you click the request quote or payment box:
- Measured the actual table (length, width, and height) - not assumed from a rental listing
- Confirmed whether it's standard, 36-inch demo, or 42-inch counter/bar height
- Picked a style based on how often the booth gets set up and torn down (fitted or stretch for frequent use, throw for occasional use)
- Decided if the venue requires Fire Retardant fabric
- Uploaded artwork with enough lead time to review the free proof before your event date
- Added a carry case if you're transporting the cover yourself between shows
- Cross-checked the rest of the booth - backdrop, banner, flags - so the table cover isn't the only branded piece
A common problem is that company event managers or design teams can quickly run out of time, especially if the actual details of what is required for the event is not set in stone from day one. This happens more often than you would imagine and it is one reason why our production floor is set up for a quick turnaround.
Trade show table cover printing happens in-house in Sturgeon Bay, and not a third-party shop. This means that a proof can turn around and move to production quickly without waiting on an outside vendor. In other words, if you are tight on time before an event, we have your back.

"FLS really worked with me on getting my 8ft custom fitted table cloths to me. I approved the design on a Monday and they were at my door step on Thursday! Quality was amazing - everyone at the show loved them!"

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a counter height table cover?
A counter height table cover is cut for a 42-inch-tall table - a cocktail round or bar-height table, not a standard banquet table. It's also called bar height. Order a standard cover for a counter-height table and it will ride up, exposing the legs.
What's the difference between a fitted and a stretch table cover?
A fitted cover is sewn with tailored corners to match the table's exact shape. A stretch (contour) cover is pulled taut and secured underneath the frame instead, with no sewn corners at all. Both give a clean, wrinkle-free look; stretch has no loose fabric to re-straighten at every setup.
What size table cover do I need for a 6 ft table?
Measure the table's length, width, and height first - don't assume from the label. FLS's 6-foot covers are available in throw / drape starting at $128.50 and fitted starting at $150.50, and the 6-foot table cover page lists the exact fit for that length. Stretch / contour covers are made in 4 ft, 6 ft and 8 ft.
Can I get a fire-retardant table cover?
Yes. FLS's drape / throw covers are available in a Fire Retardant fabric option in addition to standard knit polyester, which meets the fire-code requirement a growing number of venues enforce before setup. Fire Retardant fabric is also available on fitted covers, table runners, and custom size or shape covers - and every stretch / contour cover is fire retardant as standard, with nothing to add on. Where FR is an option rather than standard, it carries an additional charge that varies by style and size.
How much does a custom trade show table cover cost?
Starting prices run from $45.00 for a table runner up to $256.00 for a 4-ft stretch cover, with throw covers starting at $128.50 and fitted covers at $150.50. Current pricing for every style and size is listed on each product page.
The Bottom Line
A trade show table cover is the fastest, cheapest way to turn a rental folding table into part of your brand.
Order the wrong size or style, though, and it undoes itself by setup morning. That means that you need to be aware of where the pitfalls are and the best way to avoid them.
Measure the table first. Match the style to how often you'll set up and tear down. Confirm demo or counter height before you order if your table isn't standard.
Follow these basic rules and your first chance to make a good impression will be exactly that. And that is what matters.
